Dorothy Norwood began touring with her family at the age of eight in 1943. By the time she was 21 she was performing with Mahalia Jackson. Throughout the early 60s, she toured with The Caravans, a gospel group that was started in 1947 by Robert Anderson. In addition to Dorothy Norwood, Anderson and the Caravans were instrumental in launching  the careers of a number of artist over the years, including names like:  Delores Washington, Albertina Walker, Bessie Griffin, Cassietta George, Inez Andrews, Shirley Caesar, Josephine Howard, and Rev. James Cleveland.

Ms. Norwood launched her solo career in 1964 with her first album Johnny and Jesus. Her 1991 album  Live with the Northern California GMWA Mass Choir reached number 1 on Billboard Top Forty Chart.  Of her 50+ albums, five were Certified golf. She has won numerous awards including nine Grammy nominations. She has toured all over the world and even did 30 state tour with Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones. Evangelist Norwood has released 52 solo albums, including her recent album An Incredible Journey, on her own label Dorothy Norwood Music Group (DNMG). In October 2014 An Incredible Journey made its debut on the Billboard Gospel Music at #2.
